A taste of Himilayan ambience…(Bamboo nose flute. Headphones recommended!)

Over thirty-five years ago, I began my professional career in the exciting field of Mind-Body medicine.

Now, as I move through this next season of my life, I feel a similar sort of excitement and gratitude regarding my work in the pioneering field of Sound Healing.

Many, myself included, consider it the next big wave in integrative medicine. I’m confident that within my lifetime sound healing will become much more of a household word, just as “mind-body medicine” has over these past decades.

I feel deeply fortunate that I get to “surf another big one.” C’mon along for the ride…if you choose! I guarantee you, it’s a powerfully transformational and awesome journey.

How do we process sonic vibrations?

Our human bodies are wired to be exquisitely sensitive to sound. Hearing is one of the first senses to develop in utero, and the last to depart before death. Studies have shown that in addition to perceiving sound through our ears, we also sense the pressure waves of sound through our skin. And since water conducts sound at a rate that’s approximately four times faster than air, it’s easy to see how we humans (with bodies composed largely of water) are very receptive to and deeply affected by sonic vibrations.

What is sound?

Simply put, sound is transmitted vibrations. Vibrations transmitted with frequencies in the range of 20 to 20,000 Hertz (Hz) are generally within the realm of human hearing. Frequencies above 20,000 Hz are referred to as ultrasonic, and frequencies below 20 Hz are referred to as infrasonic.

What in the world are primary cilium?

Bruce Lipton, well-respected neuroscientist and a prominent proponent of the fascinating field of epigenetics, describes, in his book, The Biology of Belief, how ultra-sensitive “primary cilium”–tiny little antenna-like structures on our cell membranes–respond to vibrations:

“The antennas on these energy receptors vibrate like tuning forks. If an energy vibration in the environment resonates with a receptor’s antenna, it will alter the protein’s charge, causing the receptor to change shape. Because these receptors can read energy fields, the notion that only physical molecules can impact cell physiology is outmoded. Biological behavior can be controlled by invisible forces (like sound,) as well as it can be controlled by physical molecules like penicillin, a fact that provides the scientific underpinning for pharmaceutical-free energy medicine.”

What does all this have to do with
Sound Healing?

If, as quantum physics has proven beyond doubt, everything in the physical universe is simply Energy vibrating at different rates, and if this vibrating Energy is all integrally interconnected, then it stands to reason that any change or alteration of vibration can and must affect all other forms of vibration. It’s the science that explains why a butterfly flapping its wings is ultimately related with a tsunami on the other side of the world. It’s not just a metaphor, or a nice spiritual concept. We are, literally, all in this together.

Sound healing is the most elegant, expedient way I have found to shift energetic frequency levels–my own, for another individual, or for a group. It’s in the powerful state of coherence that our consciousness–and hence, our world–is transformed.

WHAT FORMS OF SOUND HEALING DOES NANCY USE?

Sound Healing Testimonials

Nancy is doing some incredibly powerful work with tonal vibrations elicited from a series of beauteous bowls which carried me to depths I had only experienced previously through sweat lodge ceremonies, of times spent with the rock elders. This is not work for anyone with preconceptions formed from other healing practices. As for the vocals that were present…some of the “rawness” that came out helped break down blocks and holds within me. Like claws strong enough to score stone. Those moments of raw discordant sound call to the shadow aspects, that they may be acknowledged as aspects of Self. Yet, the singing of the bowls combined with the gentle breath and whisper of a bamboo nose flute carried me to a new level of Self that words cannot describe. It can only be felt, and only if judgment remains outside with your shoes. —Achilles Massahos, Eugene, OR

Crystal Alchemy Singing Bowls

The vibrational tones of these beautiful crystal alchemy bowls are not just heard with your ear, but are deeply felt throughout your whole body. They’re infused with gems and precious metals such as 24 karat gold, platinum, diamond, citrine, rose quartz, indium and morganite. The effects of these bowls is…indescribable.

Bamboo Nose Flute

Another instrument I use in my sound healing practice is the nose flute. I have several flutes, custom made for me by a dear Mauian friend who was a master carver, healer and musician. They are gentle, powerful sacred instruments.

Toning & Overtoning

Toning & Overtoning

Our voices are incredibly powerful healing instruments. We are meant to express freely with our voices, whether speaking, singing, toning or just in spontaneous non-verbal utterances. The vibrations we create with our own voices are powerful, customized medicine, which can be used to rebalance and attune our entire being.

Bone Toning

Our bones also conduct sound. Many hearing aids now utilize this innate conductivity, by transmitting sound through the skull directly to the cochlea. Bone Toning™ is a technique in which I vocally tone directly into a client’s body.
